In this novel, the horror and chaos don't really come from the snake. They come from partisan squabbles, from political posturing. From a mayor who's so image-conscious that he's willing to round up 500 cops from all five boroughs and have the lot of them comb Central Park, inch by inch, on a 100-degree day. All so they *might* catch one stray reptile who probably wouldn’t survive the winter anyway. In June 2019, Joe Drake, Chairman of the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, announced that the company was working with Collins with regards to an adaptation of The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.  By April 2020, Collins and Lionsgate confirmed that plans were underway for the film's development. Casting had not yet begun, but director Francis Lawrence has been confirmed to return after his success with The Hunger Games trilogy. The film’s writer will be Michael Arndt, with Nina Jacobson and author Suzanne Collins as producers.

It also contains detailed profiles and excellent photos of the snakes which help you identify which snake you’re staring down on your front porch. In an almost textbook-style thoroughness, this book sends you on a deep dive into the world of snakes. It also includes detailed range maps, reproduction, and other behavioral traits.The only complaint is that this hasn’t been updated with current information on snake families.
