Before they head into the Sea of Nightmares to get a pearl (which would allow Nemo to see her father again in Slumberland), she tells Flip the truth of who he is. Learning that he's a dull doorknob salesman in real life, Flip refuses to use a pearl to wish he was awake. Peter chose to stop having his adventures in Slumberland when he decided to have a family, but Flip found out a way to stay in the dream world and hasn't woken up in the real world for more than three decades.

Before he dies, the final bedtime story we see Peter give to Nemo involves him going on an adventure with Flip to the Sea of Nightmares to find a magic pearl. Nemo assumes Flip is a fictional character, but when she finds herself in Slumberland, she realises he was real.
