Protagonist #1, as it turns out, isn't well-versed in disappearing. Which is just as well, because... protagonist #2 isn't well-versed in murder. Protagonist #1 - Nicolette Holland - a beloved, bubbly, popular girl - has stumbled upon a grizzly murder and promptly disappeared. What results is an overly smart, almost academic coverage of writing about anorexia and thinness and eating in general, along with her experiences in treatment and thoughts about others treated alongside her. I don't know quite what I expected from this book, but I came away feeling slightly askew. Did I just read about women suffering? Or did I read an academic thought experiment? Hard to say.

In this provocative series of essays, Busch examines how social media and the surveillance economy have redefined the way we live….Throughout, she asks important questions about the consequences of hypervisibility.”— BBC Culture, Ten Books to Read this February I feel that the characters were weak. They didn’t have a real drive in them. At best Nicolette was just confusing. She would have this hell bent attitude on surviving then the first guy who winks at her has her in a puddle of jelly? I don’t like it when characters fall in love immediately. I will refer to this one as a takeaway romance. "Ya want extra cheese with that line?"Okay, so I'm going to explain why I did not like this novel but before I do that let me just say that I do believe that this might become a favourite amongst YA fans. It has all the elements to theoretically make this novel the perfect YA thriller. Romance, action, humour and suspense. Overall, a fantastic book with a perfectly paced plot, with believable dialogue, characters you can like and invest in and some jaw dropping moments. What more can you ask for??!! Phew, let me catch my breath! Gillian McAllister is one of my favourite authors but I think even by her high standards she’s excelled herself with this one! What a rollercoaster, breathtaking, phenomenal read. I don’t want to say too much about the plot but the story starts when Zara witnesses a fight in which a homeless man dies. Two young men, about to sign up for the full squad of Premier League Holloway FC are charged with murder. It goes to court but the case falls apart as Zara gives evidence as Girl A. After this, some people are baying for revengeful blood on social media, Zara is identified and she and her mother Lauren go into witness protection, leaving stepfather Aidan behind as he cannot leave his daughter Poppy from his first marriage. The story is told in alternating perspectives by Lauren, Zara, Aidan and Poppy.

This “adrenaline-soaked thriller” ( Publishers Weekly) follows the game of cat and mouse between a girl on the run from a murder she witnessed—or committed?—and the boy who’s sent to kill her. Writing one story is hard. Ann Stampler has written two stories in one. Two different characters. Two different voices. Two different perspectives. Interwoven in one story. The talent it takes to write one story in two views, written in such a way that the scenes, the story, is not repetitive, but each perspective falls into place to carry the story forward perfectly. Ann Stampler had pulled it off. You’re facing hostility, consistent physical abuse, and getting death threats due to your sexual orientation, religion, or raceNicolette Holland is a high school cheerleader who’s a popular and likable girl. She certainly never expected to find herself on the run. When a girl is found dead in the woods near her house, Nicolette must do exactly what she never expected. She changes her appearance and her identity then survives by taking any temporary jobs she can find. Nicolette must constantly move from place to place, she must not be found and she must always hide. The witness protection program is designed to help primary witnesses disappear legally to keep them safe from people after them. The government will relocate you from your home and give you a new identity in such a case. For you to qualify for the witness protection program, the government will look at:

Children and spouses in abusive relationships often consider disappearing an option. Depending on the level of abuse, it may be the only option. An abusive spouse would often rather see their spouse dead than lose them. Escaping a Stalker

For the rest of us, How to Disappear is very old-fashioned tradecraft. Ahearn used to be a skiptracer, but now he helps people get away from their problems. The idea of faking your own death so you can live on a tropical beach may seem glamorous, but in reality, not being found means a lot of scared and abused women. This is the situation Lauren finds herself in after her teenage daughter Zara witnesses the coldblooded murder of a homeless man and agrees to give evidence in court against two popular football stars. Now both Lauren and Zara are in witness protection, with new identities and strict instructions to leave their old lives behind. Laura’s husband Aiden, who has a daughter from his first marriage, has to stay behind. Will they ever see one another again?
