This is an excellent feature that lets you shoot professional-looking footage more easily. In indoor lighting you’ll see some blurring around the corners of the frame, caused by motion blur, but in a bright environment, it’s near-invisible.

This is most effective in lower, rather than ultra-low, lighting –scenes like sunset, dusk, or when shooting under a dense canopy of trees. That last one is probably the most important, given how often hikers, trail runners and cyclists will use a GoPro in forests. In some cases, there’s more than one model number that can be used in a particular camera. For instance, some batteries have been tweaked and replaced with newer iterations, along the lines of AHDBT-201 and AHDBT-301. The company has laid out a slew of claims around Enduro battery performance (such as lasting 40% longer), and as usual, if there’s anything I’m good at, it’s repetitively testing something to the point of stupidity. Fear not, with the assistance of beer, Ben & Jerry’s, and (more) batteries – I think I’ve figured this thing out. And more importantly, figured out whether or not you should buy one (spoiler: yes). Starting with the first time, just putting the camera in the freezer at various resolutions I found:

The imaging sensor has seen a resolution bump for the first time since the Hero 3. The new sensor allows the Hero 9 to capture 20MP stills, up from 12MP, and record video at up to 5K. While at first glance this may seem like an odd resolution (how many people do you know running 5K displays?), in practice, it’ll allow you to crop in further during editing for more precise framing. Shooting in 5K to edit and export in 4K should in general also provide you with a cleaner, less noisy final image. Long-term GoPro fans will have guessed that a new version of HyperSmooth was coming. There’s always some form of improvement to GoPro’s fantastic motion smoothing stabilization with each leading Hero camera.Ultimately, I do wish these batteries charged faster. If I look at batteries across the landscape of devices I own, I can’t think of a battery that charges slower than that (ok, actually, the new Whoop 4.0 band does, barely does – but using wireless, which is to be expected).
