Good banter, cold beers and sizzling steaks (or roasting marshmallows) under a starry sky – it’s a magical experience. Fancy it? Then you need a portable fire pit. We think this stove is a novelty item for survivalist types who like to go out on weekends and try different methods to live off of the land. It is also a good item for your zombie apocalypse survival kit. If you run out of white gas for cooking your scavenged cans of beans and whatnot, the Bushbox would work well. In all seriousness — there may be certain thru-hikers who love this stove and could use it to cook Ramen noodles every day — but this would take a lot of diligence and good weather. We definitely recommend reading the directions before using the Bushbox. Value
One-minute set-up time / 24” x 24” burn area / Nylon carrybag / fire mesh / ember guards / collapsible frame / heat shield / made from 304 stainless steel and aircraft aluminium / lifetime guarantee / dimensions (opened): 24″x24″x15″. The decoration holes on the sides provide oxygen to the fire and protect it enough to not extinguish your starting flame. As you can see from the video, combustion is very complete despite the size. You can use rubbing alcohol (91% denatured alcohol) from any drug store or Heet (or similar) fuel stabilizers that can be found at gas stations and auto parts stores. Another reason the firebox designs work so well is that the fire draws oxygen from below. This not only makes a super efficient fire, but also cuts down a lot of smoke – an important aspect when you are cooking.
More than anything else, this is why my Bushbox Ultralight stove would be a primary item I would choose for a bugout bag for the zombie apocalypse. We’ve scoured the market for the best portable fire pits out there, with a wide variety in terms of price, features and styles. Here are our favourites:Alternatively, the Trivets can be used to handle the hot Bushbox. In combination with the separately available Universal Grate, they can also be used as a toast holder or to keep your coffee cup warm. Try it out! A fire pit is an open, lidless container in which a fire can be lit using wood or charcoal. Or, to put it another way, a fire pit is a no-nonsense version of a barbecue, with an extra touch of rugged, outdoorsy appeal. You can cook over a fire pit, or you can simply light it for the warmth. Solid fuel tablets like Esbit or hexamine work great in the Bushbox Ultralight. If you are suing the tablets by themselves, simply place the tablets right onto the grill plate. The holes in the grill plate will allow the tablet to get plenty of oxygen and burn with maximum efficiency.
The first time you assemble the Bushbox Ultralight is a bit of a challenge and you will be worried about bending or breaking something. But the pieces are very strong and the design, again. is ingenious. Once you get the hang of it, you can have it together in 30 seconds or less. Thanks to the Trivets, you can place an external heat source (e.g. Trangia) at any height in the Bushbox LF.
