You must remove any wax from an existing chalk painted piece before applying new paint. To remove wax, use mineral spirits on a damp rag. Please be careful, as this will be very strong. I recommend using any mineral spirits outside in a well-ventilated area.

I normally use a heat gun to remove other paint such as satin, gloss and eggshell. However, I don’t recommend using a heat gun to remove chalk paint. Ensure a plug is in the sink when you rinse the model. We don’t want you losing parts down the plug hole! Chalk paint claimed to be a cheaper alternative and low VOC.
